The Biodiversity and landscape ecology group of the Centre Tecnològic Forestal de Catalunya conducts research devoted to modelling and analysing factors determining species distributions in a complex and changing world. To this aim, research includes a wide range of approaches and methodologies combining the analyses of large scale, temporal biodiversity data sets and the use of modern statistical and landscape modelling tools.

A great deal of effort has been concentrated on the implementation of the gathered knowledge to specific conservation issues. Our team has focused on the biology and management of fauna and associated habitats, particularly in relation with species of high conservation value. The activities have also explored the development of indicators of the environmental changes, and the elaboration of guidelines to improve the management of socio-ecological systems of the Mediterranean region.

→ European Network on Farmland Heterogeneity, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (FARMLAND). ERA-NET Biodiversa project, FP7, EU (PRI-PIMBDV-2011-0880). Main researcher: Dr. Jean-Louis Martin (CNRS, France), Dr. Lluís Brotons (Team leader), (900.000 €, CTFC 97.000€). 1/3/2012-31/3/2015.

→ Assessing the impact on biodiversity of uncertain and novel future landscapes under different drivers of global change in a Mediterranean region (BIONOVEL). Funded by the “Ministerio de Economía y de Competitividad” (CGL2011-29539), (163.350 €). Main researcher: Dr. Lluís Brotons. 1/1/2012-31/12/2014.

→ Securing the conservation of biodiversity across administrative levels and spatial, temporal and ecological scales (SCALES). Large-scale project, FP7, EU. Main researcher: Klaus Henle (UFZ, Germany), Dr. Lluís Brotons coordinator of the EBCC-CTFC team. 1/4/2009 – 31/4/2012.

→ Steppe-land birds, agriculture practices and economic viability: towards the conservation of threatened species in humanised landscapes (STEPPE-AHEAD). Funded by the “Fundación General CSIC” (213.969 €). Main researcher: Lluís Brotons. 30/3/2011- 31/3/2014.

→ Spanish woodlands and global change: threats and opportunities (MONTES). Funded by the “Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia” (CONSOLIDER CSD2008-00040) (4.000.000 €, CTFC: 275.000 €). Main researcher: Dr. Javier Retana, Dr. Lluís Brotons acting as coordinator of CTFC and work package 5. 1/01/2009-31/12/2012.

→ Integration of perturbation dynamics in the spatial prediction of biodiversity in Mediterranean ecosystems (BIOPRED). Funded by the “Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia” (CGL2008-06608/BOS) (115.400 €). Main researcher: Dr. Lluís Brotons. 1/1/2009-31/12/2011.
